From the 4th of
December 2008 till the 1st of Januar 2009 ,we will be
active with the call
PA30KST.
We use this callsign to
celebrate our 30th year of the
Kanaalstreek.The
Kanaalstreek is a department under the VERON
wings in region 27.It's located in the North East part
of the Netherlands.Click

How things started:
The first meeting of what became the
Kanaalstreek was on the
16th of December 1977 at Hotel Dopper in Stadskanaal.At
this meeting 45 members were present.The president of
the department that time was Henk Rubing PA0RSR,members
of the commitee to setup the
Kanaalstreek were: Nico Bakker NL5937 , Jan
Boerema PE1AYH , Gerard Borchers PA0UGB , Menno
Fleischer , Jan de Haan PA0JDH , Jan van der Reyden
PA0TAR and Jan Wolthuis PE0RTX.Thoose people
did put their heads together to try to get a department
for the Radio HAM's in the area of Stadskanaal.That
time,alot of new Radio amateurs did get their
licence.Only 2 department where active that time,but not
close to Stadskanaal.The people had to travel to Emmen
or Groningen.This was the reason why they wanted to
setup a department in Stadskanaal.This wasn't the first
time that OM's wanted to try to setup a department in
Stadskanaal area.Two times before they did try,in 1946
and 1959.In 1946 they did use another name called The
Veenkoloniën.In 1959 the also used the name
Kanaalstreek.Both times the
department stopped due different reasons.This info came
from Teun PA0TAU.The day of the meetings where
already set on the 3th friday of the Month.This with the
eye on the clubs in the neighborhood.This way members
from our club could also visite other department,and
also other visite us.

Veron or VRZA:
At this first meeting in 1977,the first question came up
was,if it would be a department from the Veron or the
VRZA or maybe a combined one.This after a example of the
departments in Emmen and Groningen.After voting it came
up that it was 19 for the Veron and 33 for the VRZA.A
combined department would be a good solution,but the
governing board didn't want that.They would quit if this
would be the choice of the members.After some serious
discussion,the members choose for a Veron department.
Kanaalstreek was born:
At the first general member meeting of the Veron at the
15th of April 1978,members had to vote about the new
department de Kanaalstreek.The
vote came out with a very loud YES.So the department
Kanaalstreek was born!!!
Governing board:
After official disclosure that the
Kanaalstreek as a department did excist,the first
governing board existed by these names:

Wolthuis (Secretary) , NL5937 Nico Bakker (QSL-Manager)
, Menno Fleischer (Treasurer) , PE1AYH Jan
Boerema (Member) , PA0TAR Jan van der Reijden

is at the 18th May 1978.
Meetings:
The meetings where kept in the start at Hotel Dopper at
Stadskanaal,but later they looked for another place.On
the 19th of September they talked about tht they found
another location.No name was called for this new place
yet.On the 20 of Februar the name of Harry Schut was
pronounced to be the new location.We still have our
meetings there at the 3th fridays of the Month.It can be
found at the
Handelsstraat 31,
Stadskanaal.So we also have our meetings 28 years at
his cafe already.We want to thank Harry and his family
for this.
The meetings are
different each time.Once a year there's a selling
meeting and also at the end of the year we have a
sociable meeting.This last meeting we have nice things
to eat and to drink.This is only for the members of the
department as well the first meeting of the year.All the
other meetings are open for all people who like to
come.Also the QSL manager is present.The evening starts
at 20:00,the QSL manager is mostly there around 19:45.
We hope you enjoy our

active.We try to be at all bands,if the time and
